Take a look at Kolstrand’s latest innovation for the purse seine industry. The purse line was traditionally stacked by a crewmember, but innovation has changed the pace of the fishing operation and many fishermen are switching to an auto purse option. Kolstrand delivers an easy alternative to another looking to automate the pursing process.
Via Vimeo: A quick glimpse into the commercial fishing world of gillnetting in southeast alaska. It may be a five minute long film, but it’s a 3 month long season. When you’re the one filming and fishing, it’s impossible to capture all the emotion and hard work that goes into gillnetting. The fishing takes immense precedence over any capturing, but myself and my captain did the best we could to bring a little of our lives onto your screen. Enjoy.
This is my new favorite beach in Craig, Alaska. I call it ShipWreck Beach! The story behind the boat is that it was a fixer- up project gone bad. The boat was intentionally dry docked and neglected over the years until you see what we have here. I would greatly appreciate some extra info about the boat if anyone in Craig has an idea. It would be awesome to have a bonfire right in the middle of this thing and get some great night pics.
While fishing outside of Sitka this summer we had 4G cell service so, I recorded a huge LIVE stream of our fishing day. Here is a nice highlight from the day of a big bag rolling aboard. To see more ustream video from salmon and herring fishing, check out http://ustream.tv/channel/Juneautek I tried to embed a highlight from the mega long video, but it didn’r work. I have a bunch of these Vines from throughout the summer, I’ll be re-posting them here and there. If you are on vine, follow me @ juneautek. How many kinds of salmon can you spot?
This strange honeycomb like organism came up in one of our night sets while fishing for squid in 2010. I have not been able to figure out what his thing is. Im hoping that someone out there recognizes this bizarre creature and solves an age old mystery for me. This is, by far, one of the strangest things I have seen come out of the ocean. Please help me figure out what it is.
Another salmon season is just around the corner! I hope you enjoy the new Vine app from Twitter. I will be highlighting different commercial fishing vessel over the upcoming season.
Another summer of salmon is just around the corner and I can’t wait! This was taken during our 4th of July celebration while in Kendrick Bay! 10 boats rafted up together to celebrate the holiday. For many fishermen, 4th of July is a working holiday! In 16 years of fishing, I’ve only had the 4th of July off two times!
