WEST BEHM HERRING FISHERY ENDS — The Metlakatla-based commercial gillnet boat Monica Ann harvests herring Tuesday at Vallenar Bay during the state’s 2011 West Behm Canal commercial herring sac roe fishery. The Monica Ann was one of four boats that participated in the fishery, which opened Monday morning and closed at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, according to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. Tuesday’s harvests were the first commercial herring sac roe fishery catches in the West Behm Canal since 1976.
