Safety is always the first priority in most of our eyes, however most of us are not the ones making the safety choices On the vessel.  We are direct products of the actions of our captains and crew.  Know your boats, know your captains and don’t be afraid to leave if you feel like you life is being put in danger.  Early this season, someone was lost overboard in the Nushgak to never return.  Just remember, no fish is worth your life.  Once the captains get the ole “fisheyes” things can get pretty screwy out there.  The key is to keep calm.  Most injuries are because people are flustered and don’t have proper instruction.  Let’s be realistic, some of these guys are not the brightest…  That’s why they are gillnetters.  Stay safe…
