Goodbye LORAN! We barely knew you

I used LORAN the first time that I went to Bristol Bay in 1999.  Its basically a grid system of radio waves.  For those of you who don’t have any idea what LORAN is your not missing much since the system is no longer in use.  Here is the wiki, just so you know.  I think that it would be a good back up system if we had GPS satellite failure, but it seems that we are moving on.

The tallest structure in Alaska will be demolished sometime this week, although Coast Guard officials won’t say exactly when. The LORAN tower at Port Clarence stands at 1,350 feet and is the tallest tower of its kind in the country. It’s a tower more than double the height of Seattle’s Space Needle.
