Sadly, we haven’t fished sardine in California since 2016 and the fishery is unlikely to happen again anytime soon. Let’s look back on the history of the fishery from the perspective of the local Monterey fishermen.

Produced for Monterey Savings in 1978, SILVER HARVEST it the story of the Monterey sardine fishing industry, and the creation of historic Cannery Row: Told without narration, and without a single still photo, the film features rare archival film footage and “The men, the boats and the families that came to Monterey to fish the sardines” in the early half of the 20th Century.
