Commercial Fishing Photo Of The Day | F/V New Stella

Now that we are back fishing in the Channel Islands, we get to see some of the San Pedro fishing fleet. The F/V New Stella has their homeport pretty much in the heart of Los Angeles right near Terminal Island. The squid haven’t really been hitting the southern fishing regions too much in recent years. This will be the 4th year of slower production for the squid fleet. Since 2015 the average squid catch is stagnated at around 40,000 square tons for the season. From 2010 to 2014, the fishery consistently caught over 100,000 square tons. Yeah, El Nino+Warm Blob=No Squid.
