Dutch Harbor Update | Baranof on the Rocks at Devil’s Point

The Baranof went on the rocks Monday morning at 9:39. The cause of the mishap has not been released. According to Coast Guard sources, the investigation findings will be known in about six months. There was no spill and no internal damage to the ship, and no injuries. 23,000 gallons of fuel and lube oil was on board. A good pull from the tug James Dunlap freed the vessel at around 12:20 p.m. Divers from Magone were inspecting the ship’s hull. Crew members expressed hope the vessel would be able to fish without delay. The Baranof is a former Coast Guard buoy tender and has ice-breaking capabilities.
