Got Crab?

Its that time again.  I wish for good luck and great catches this season.  Fishing around The Columbia Sand bar can be gnarly.

Capt. Eric Chamberlin, Chief of Response for the Coast Guard’s Thirteenth Coast Guard District in Seattle, and Capt. Doug Kaup, Commander of Sector Columbia River, will be wandering the docks at the Warrenton Marina on Tuesday starting at 11 a.m. to perform safety spot checks and voluntary dockside exams as part of Operation Safe Crab, the Coast Guard’s continuing initiative to reduce the number of fisherman’s lives lost at sea.

Oregon and Washington commercial Dungeness crabbing vessels operate in some of the winter’s worst weather, in hazardous waters, and have the highest fatality rate of any West Coast fishery, said Petty Officer 3rd Class Nate Littlejohn.
