Fishermen ‘working 17 times harder than in the Victorian era

It would have been great to see the oceans teeming with fish stocks!  Let’s hope that those days return.

BRITISH fishermen are having to work 17 times harder than their Victorian counterparts to land the same catch – despite improved technology and far more powerful boats, according to a new study.

The research also shows that the availability of some mainstay fish stocks such as haddock, plaice and cod are now 94 per cent less than they were in the days of sail.
