Wild caught Alaska salmon, Pacific cod make list of ‘super green’ seafoods
By the Journal of Commerce
Wild caught Alaska salmon was ranked among the best in the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s new super green list of wild and farmed seafoods that are both good for human health and produced in ways that protect ocean ecosystems.
Longline caught Pacific cod harvested in Alaska made the aquarium’s list of other healthy best choices.
The lists were released Oct. 20 as part of the aquarium’s benchmark research report, “Turning the Tide: The State of Seafood,” to mark the 25th anniversary of the aquarium and the 10th anniversary of its seafood watch program.
The lists were compiled in cooperation with the Environmental Defense Fund and scientists from the Harvard School of Public Health.
The State of Seafood report details threats to healthy oceans from mismanagement of wild-caught fisheries and a booming fish-farming sector. It also highlights trends that offer hope for the future of sustainable fisheries.
